It has been a while since the last episode of DeckConstruct, but now that conkers are starting to fall and summer is slowly turning to autumn, it’s time to talk about series 9!
The podcast will return on September 9 with show 106, a look back at things that happened in MTG over the summer, including Innistrad cards, the Modern format and other bits and pieces.
As for the other shows, this time I’m not going to lay out in advance what the series will cover. For series 8, I said I’d talk about EDH and Legacy, and talked about Standard more than anything else! So, this time, the cast will just go with the flow. I do have some ideas in mind for specific episodes, though!
Another thing about series 9 will be the length of each episode. Each episode of DC has always been the length it needs to be, whether that’s ten minutes or fifty minutes. However, in this series there might be some shorter than usual episodes, depending on the subject. Last series, I often worried that I had to talk about something that would fill at least 30 minutes of running time, and that’s something I’m not going to do now. Each episode will truly be as long as it needs to be.
I’m also going to run a contest to mark the new series. Listen out for it in 106!
You might have noticed that DC was offline from last Friday until today. This was caused by the site exceeding its bandwidth limit. The primary cause was MP3 downloads, or in other words a lot more people downloading the podcast.
I’m grateful that the podcast gets more listeners every day, and indeed that the site is visited so much, but over the past week or so this placed a strain on the site which resulted in the downtime. I guess it’s a “good problem” to have!
As a result of the downtime, I’ve upgraded DC to a bigger hosting plan which will be able to accommodate a lot more downloads. Newer episodes will download from Dropbox as usual (check out show 104 for the lowdown on how to host podcast files with Dropbox).
Please accept my apologies for the downtime. Also, thanks to James for letting me know that DC was offline.

It’s Friday once again, and DC 105, the last show of series 8, is online!
This week, the show is all about red. In the post-banning Standard starting on July 1, a lot more decks will become viable in the format. I think red in particular will be a driving force in Standard. So today I look at aggro, control and combo shades of red, and discuss cards and decks that may see play before Standard rotates on September 30.
As always your email is much appreciated at show@deckconstruct.com, and don’t forget to visit the DC Forums for much discussion about Magic.
Also, DC will still be on the socials over the summer at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr.
Thanks for listening, and thanks for subscribing if you do! More information on what’s happening with DC series 9 will be posted on the website around late-August.

It’s Wednesday, and the 2nd of the three shows that are coming out this week is the 3rd part of Making An MTG Podcast.
In this episode, I talk about getting it all together and actually starting out on the podcasting road. Knowing about software, hardware and technques is fine, but how do you actually start? I also go over things like getting a website and audio file hosting, both of which can be done for free!
As always if you have any comments, suggestions or just want to let me know about your new podcast, please shoot an email to show@deckconstruct.com. Also, crash over to the DC Forums for Magic-related chat and another place where you can tell everyone about your podcast!
You’ll also find DC playing in the social stadium at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr, and don’t forget to send in your audio question, comment or shoutout to audio@deckconstruct.com via Vocaroo.com or WeTransfer.
Thanks for listening!

It’s Monday, not Friday and DC 103 is out! I decided to delay this show to Monday because of a little announcement that was coming down the pipe. Also, apologies if this show sounds like it was put through a guitar amp with overdrive flicked on, I had a few technical hitches in getting this show recorded.
The latest Banned and Restricted Announcement was made today, and all eyes were on DailyMTG.com to see what, if anything, would be banned in Standard. In the end, there were indeed bannings and in this show I talk about those bannings and what they mean for Standard.
After that it’s time for another listener question. Noah in St. Louis, MO, has a question about playing competitive Magic nearby, and I do my best to answer.
As always you can send your comments, suggestions and so on to show@deckconstruct.com, the DC Forums are open in the usual place, and you can send your voice to audio@deckconstruct.com via Vocaroo.com or WeTransfer (please check how it sounds before sending, though!).
DC is also floating on the social breeze at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr.
Thanks for listening!

Friends, minions, and combo players, it’s time for another episode of DC to hit the netwaves! This one is out on a Monday because I wanted to talk about something that happened on Saturday.
To kick things off, I talk about the New Phyrexia game day which took place on Saturday, June 11th 2011 (and on June 12 for some people). I played a rogue deck that didn’t do too badly, in a Standard field with a surprising lack of CawBlade, or any netdeck, really.
After that is a look at some emails you guys sent in about how you got into Magic. Everyone gets into the game in a different way, so this is a selection of those different ways!
As always I’d love to hear from you at show@deckconstruct.com, and don’t forget to check out the DC Forums for friendly Magic banter.
DC is also riding the social crest at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr, and you can send your vocal question, shoutout or suggestion to the show at audio@deckconstruct.com using either Vocaroo.com or WeTransfer.
Thanks for listening!

The Friday sun bears down again, and DC 101 is ready to go!
This week’s show focuses on the first ever Tuesday Night Overextended, which happened on Magic Online this past Tuesday, May 31 2011. The event had a great turnout to kick off Overextended on MTGO, and some great decks emerged in a wide-open field.
I discuss some of the decks in the top 16, including how they play and the cards they run. It was a fun night of MTG and well worth logging on for as TNO will be a regular Tuesday night event!
As usual your comments, suggestions and suggestions for the ideal ice cream sauce are welcome at show@deckconstruct.com, and stop by the DC Forums for a natter about MTG.
DC is also on the social sidewalks they call Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr, and why not record a question or shoutout and send it to audio@deckconstruct.com via Vocaroo.com or WeTransfer?
Thanks for listening!

It took 3 years, 8 months and 1 week, but DC has finally reached the 100th episode! Huzzah! Drinks all round!
There were many things I could’ve done for the big one-zero-zero, but in the end I decided to keep it simple and focus on two things: new and returning players, and new formats.
The first part of the show is about advice I would give to a new player who is just taking their first steps into the wide world of MTG. I offer some bits of advice that you might not necessarily hear from your local store, things that you generally pick up from experience.
After that is a look at Modern and Overextended, two new Eternal formats (well, I hope Modern is an Eternal format!) that may one day replace Extended. I talk about what each format is made up of and their banned lists, as well as how I feel about each one.
As always, your email is much appreciated at show@deckconstruct.com (or hit the Contact link in the main menu), and why not stop by the DC Forums for some MTG-related public chat, too?
DC is also still on the socials at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr.
Don’t forget you can get yourself on the show by sending your voice to audio@deckconstruct.com via Vocaroo.com or WeTransfer.
Thanks for listening, and here’s to another 100 shows!

Friday rolls around again, and so does another episode of DC! Number 99, the last of the double-digit shows, is now online!
This week starts with a look at some cards from New Phyrexia that people seem to be talking about, not just in Standard but other formats, too. I also go over some combos with these cards in current Standard as well as a nifty EDH combo I saw earlier in the week.
After that is a look at the newly-announced NPH Event Decks and the impact they might have on card prices.
As always your feedback is always welcome at show@deckconstruct.com, and don’t forget the DC Forums are in the usual place for public discussion of things Magic and not Magic. The Romans would approve.
DC is also hanging on to the social threads at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr, and don’t forget you can send in audio for the show (comments, questions, shoutouts etc.) to audio@deckconstruct.com via Vocaroo.com or WeTransfer.
Thanks for listening!

The scene: present-day London. The day: Friday. The podcast: DC 98!
This week kicks off with a recap of the SOM/NPH sealed event we had at Richmond on Wednesday May 11. This event replaced the pre-release which was supposed to happen on May 8 but didn’t because apparently DPD is all that good at shipping Magic product!
After that is the first ever listener question on DeckConstruct! A mystery listener from NYC has a question about the CounterTop combo, and I do my best to answer.
Finally, I talk a bit about Block Constructed and Extended coming to an FNM near you!
As always I’d love to hear from you at show@deckconstruct.com, and why not saunter over to the DC forums to have a bit of a chinwag about Magic.
You’ll also find DC on the usual social media water coolers that are Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr.
Thanks for listening!
