I see what you mean. Most affinity decks just vomit out stuff and then roll over you with it. This one comes closer to vomiting it all out and then killing you via 'Death by a Thousand Cuts'.

EDIT: I think I'm gonna collect up the cards for this and make it my one Legacy deck... (if I do a second Legacy, it's gonna be Necropotence)

RE: [Legacy] Combo Affinity
I thought of an even better name for the deck: "Chainsaw of the Meek"

RE: [Legacy] Combo Affinity
Hey, Alex - I've got this deck 85% built now and using proxies for testing.

I don't have Arcbound Ravager or Blinkmoth Nexus yet because they cost $18 and $4.50 respectively, but the rest of the cards here that I did not already have were cheap enough to buy cash. (I spent approximately $20 on 37 cards)

I have yet to play it against my friends, but I worked out a few things playing the deck solitaire for a while:

1: Brainstorm is not a viable alternative to Thoughtcast. Drawing two cards on a sliding mana cost due to Affinity is VASTLY superior to "draw 3 then put two back". Sure, you can restructure your hand with it, but you also guarantee that for your next two turns you're not going to see anything new. I got my 4x Thoughtcast in the $0.25 mixed junk box at one of my local stores.

2: After seeing the pricetag on the Arcbound Ravager, I had started looking for an alternative to it. This was even before I had become sufficiently familiar with the card. I decided to proxy it while making my decision to see how it worked and discovered that there really is no alternative to it. In one Solitaire game that I completely failed to pull the combo in, I had drawn an Ornithopter and 2x Arcbound Ravager in my opening hand and drew a third ravager on turn 2. When I realized that I could sacrifice one Ravager to another and get an extra token out of the deal, I was intrigued. When I sacrificed two of the Ravagers to the third and then sacrificed the remaining one to the Iron Works so that I could make my Ornithopter 5/7, I was sold. I'll probably try to trade for the Ravagers first, but I'll buy if I have to.

3: My only real complaint about the deck as it stands now is the mana base. The amount isn't the problem - I never seem to be lacking quantity of mana. The problem is color. I get that Affinity is a driving force in this deck, but I often get a Great Furnace when I'm in dire need of blue or black mana. While it would certainly be awesome to go Vintage and replace Great Furnace with Black Lotus and the Sapphire, Jet and Pearl Moxes, I just don't have the cards. Mana base is an issue, but due to my absence from the game for the last 12 years I simply don't have the card knowledge to suggest a viable alternative - if there even is one.

Just wanted to see what you'd say about my opinion on this and find out if there is a good way to improve on this.

RE: [Legacy] Combo Affinity
Just thinking about normal affinity, the manabase is weak due to the lack of springleaf drum and chromatic star. Glimmervoid could also fix some problems. Also with the number of colored cards chrome mox could also fit. As it is for legacy I could also see aether vial being used to get the creatures on the ground but it does not help the combo. I also do not like path maindeck but understand that it is solid removal, however you should be able to ignore most threats for a turn as the deck should be very fast. Why not replace master of etherium with cranial plating as the plating can be used on any creature and can be used on the thopter tokens.

Also how does this deck not roll over and die when faced with daze and force of will? Is the plan to trick your opponent to counter normal affinity pieces or the combo so you have one or the other to win?

edit: this is along the lines of what I would suggest

4 seat of the synod
4 vault of whispers
4 ancient den
4 darksteel citadel
3 blinkmoth nexus

4 disciple of the vault
4 ornithopter
4 frogmite

3 myr incubator
4 thopter foundry
4 sword of the meek
4 krark-clan ironworks
4 cranial plating
4 springleaf drum
2 chromatic star

4 thoughtcast

You do need to keep in mind that this deck is casual only, as Disciple of the Vault has been banned in tournament play.

Disciple is legal in legacy and vintage.
