Standard deck - Wish list
Just a general question for everyone, not sure if its in the right area. OK, so if you was to be playing in a standard tournament or FNM what deck would you want to run with, and why? Im going to the London Magic clubs single elimination event this sat (20th March), and was discussing with my local club about decks. As no one at my club really plays Jund I realised that each club or social group would have a different view on what they think would go down well.

My deck choice has not been set in stone, I have sleaved up a UW control similar to Patrick Chapin. But as I havent had a chance to play with it much, i'll probably end up running with my Eldrazi green style deck which has done me well at my local club.

RE: Standard deck - Wish list
For me personally it would be Boros Bushwacker as I cannot afford the fetchlands. But for a single elimination tournament I would run WW as it can evade all the jund/vampire/RDW hate that will probably maindecked.

I would recommend playing the Eldrazi green deck if you are more familiar with it. You can generally do better if you know how the deck functions in a given situation.

Concur with browncoat. Eldrazi green is best, but WW is good too. I favor WW more simply because I like white, but I'd suggest if you can think of a good Ally build to try that out at your fnm. My green/white Allies deck is undefeated thus far against blue-white control (though it was a very bad uw deck) and mana ramp, and against a blue/white Ally build I stalemated and later conceded because of time restraints. Overall the deck functions extremely well. If you'd like the list I run with just message me.

To clarify what I meant: I think Eldrazi green is the best deck for Ferridge to run if he is knows how it will function better than his U/W control deck. For something like a single elimination tournament you will want to know how a given deck acts in any matchup or situation. If he has not had the opportunity to playtest the control deck enough then he should stick to eldrazi green.

RE: Standard deck - Wish list
You should totally run something random but awesome! No one would see it coming... IDK what your chances of winning would be though...

Eldrazi Green can do well and if you're used to it I would go with that. It's usually good to run a deck you're familiar with. I really really really really hate to say this but your best option would sadly be Jund...... Even though it's the most hated deck in the metagame it consistently performs well and makes top 8s everywhere. You could also try the RDW with a splash of black that won GP Kauala Lumpur if you don't fear kor firewalkers (but you just board in the deathmarks and doomblades...)

I understood you browncoat. Apologies, I should have clarified. I was concurring with the fact that his familiarity with Eldrazi green would make that deck his best bet.
And aside from the fact that I hate Jund, on a less personal level I don't think it's the best deck in Standard. It's the LUCKIEST deck in Standard.

RE: Standard deck - Wish list
Thanks for the advise everyone, I'm planing on taking both and switching between the two. Everyone at my FNM is used to my eldrazi deck, so alot have a very good sideboard plan for it. So I'm hoping to learn the UW deck and get more familiar with it. I'll update this on monday to let you know how I got on.

I agree with you on this one browncoat, this was the deck I was hopping to build but havent managed to get the fetchlands.... I was a little more lucky with getting Jace, the mind sculpter.

RE: Standard deck - Wish list
Well, I learnt alot about the UW deck. but it cost me alot of games in the process. So fingers crossed a day of being beaten will alow me to smash my normal FNM club lol

I saw a very good fast red deck, with black splashed for man lands and some removal.

RE: Standard deck - Wish list
That sounds like the RDW deck from Kuala Lumpur. Very aggressive and from what I've heard beats Jund senseless. I'm building it right now...the costs look to be in the upwards of $200. However, I think that's about the cheapest tier one deck you're going to find. Boss Naya and Jund are both well over $300 unless you get lucky and crack everything you need in packs, and the need for 4 of Jace in any good u/w control deck makes its price ridiculous as well. Personally, I'm experimenting with Allies, as I feel the right build with this theme could be tier one. At my FNM this past weekend I took 2nd out of 18 players with a green/white Ally build, and I'm not positive that green/white is even the best Ally deck possible.

RE: Standard deck - Wish list
Ive been very lucky and managed to get myself 4 Jace, but I think missing the baneslayer angels in the side are what may have helped in me taking a beating. Any suggestions on what I could use in place of them would be great.

Yeah Red deck wins smashed every deck on the day I dont think he lost a round in 9 single elimination tournaments. And the day had loads of good decks like Jund, Boss Naya, Vampire, White weenie, Eldrazi green and some UW control (Which i managed to beat one of them with a well timed telemin performance, probably best part of the day)

Admonition angel is not cheap ($6 a piece) but is far more affordable than walletslayer though fills a slightly different role in the deck. Sadly there is not really an advanced baneslayer substitute that costs less so it would probably be best to try to trade for them (I can't honestly say that it would be worth buying them).
