Watching Japanese MTG on Nicovideo

Nicovideo.jp is a Japanese video site where a lot of Japanese MTG videos are posted. It's good stuff if you're interested in the Japanese MTG scene.

The problem is that the site is, naturally, in Japanese, and you need to register to watch videos. For non-Japanese speakers, or people who speak very little Japanese (myself included), that's a bit of a barrier.

So, I thought I'd whip up a quick guide on how to register for Nicovideo.

Step 1.

Nicovideo has paid and free membership options. You don't need the paid option to watch videos. Head over to the free sign up page, and put your email address in the box provided, then hit the grey-ish button.

Step 2.

On the next page, the form fields are, from top to bottom:
Nickname (2-16 characters)
Gender (Male / Female)
Date of Birth in YYYY/MM/DD format
Where you live (scroll down for international countries)
Password, which must be 8-16 characters (type in first box, then repeat in next box)
Secret question and answer (for password retrieval). You can just select the first question, which is "What is your favourite food?" then put your answer in (which doesn't have to be a food!).

Then, click the top of the two grey-ish buttons, which will proceed to the Confirm Details screen (the bottom one allows you to change your email address).

Step 3.

Hopefully, you'll now be at the Confirm Details screen. The scrollbox is just the terms and conditions. Underneath, you'll see the CAPTCHA to prove you're not a bot (the button next to the input field lets you refresh the CAPTCHA word). Type in the CAPTCHA word shown, then hit the first grey-ish button to proceed, or the second button to go back and amend your details.

Step 4.

You'll now be sent an email to confirm your email address. Check for an email from info@nicovideo.jp, and click the link in that email that begins with https://secure.nicovideo.jp/.

Step 5.

Your account should now be created. Congrats! You'll now be able to watch Japanese MTG on Nicovideo. To get started, check out Kung Fu Magic for some links to recent videos (for example, the PTQ Nagano final for PT San Juan).

Also, if you want to login in future, just head straight to the login page. It's also the first link in the very top-right set of links on the homepage.
