Worldwake Game Day Experiences
Hey guys... did any of you attend you worldwake game days? Share your stories/experiences here!
I went over to one nearby and had a lot of fun. I was playing my boros bushwhacker deck (only slightly modified from the list on the forums here) which performed very very nicely for me. Here's how it went down: Match 1: vs. black blue mill/control. (Win 2-0) Nothing too exciting happened. He milled me down to 12 cards in game two but I wasn't worried because I had a lethal lightning bolt in hand that I would have cast on my upkeep had he milled me. Match 2: vs. Esper Open the Vaults (Win 2-1) Lost game 1, won game 2, and game 3 was a nail biter! It was really close... I managed winning by casting a kicked burst lightning, then again the next turn for the final 8 damage. Match 3: vs. Jund (Loss 2-1) Game one was over quick my deck did it's thing. The next two games Jund did it's thing and I really never got anything going. Match 4: vs. Boss Naya (Win 2-0) I honestly didn't expect to win this game but I got pretty lucky. Both games he seemed to be having mana issues and when he did start playing creatures I had enough removal saved up and was able to pull off 12 damage off a bushwhacker for the win in game 2. Match 5: vs. Mono-green Elves (DRAW) At this point the top 8 were basically decided if we all just drew. I paired against one of my friends and we (along with 6 others) decided to just draw into top 8 and go have a bite to eat. The top 8 decks were pretty varied. There were 2 boros, 1 mono green elves/eldrazi, 1 RDW, 1 Jund, 1 Runeflare trap (My favorite deck of the day!), 1 green white token/eldrazi, and 1 blue white control. Quarterfinal: vs. Boros Bushwhacker (Win 2-1) This was probably my favorite match of the day. It was really interesting to play the mirror since I've never been paired against it. He was playing a semi-different version which was not running ranger of eos (I have no idea why..) but it was a very solid build. Every game was a race and I just got lucky with topdecking and pulled out the win. Game one to me, game two to him, and game three I topdecked a plated geopede that I gave haste thanks to the bushwhacker for lethal damage. (I was at 4 life... he checked his deck after the game and had a hell's thunder coming for what would have been lethal) Semifinal: vs. Jund (Win 2-1) I played the same Jund deck and was practically puking. Why Jund?? Why me?? Game one his deck did what jund does... I was hit by blightning 3 times which is never easy to recover from. Game two was stupid. We both mulled down to I think 5 which for jund is an auto loss basically. He never drew black mana for his removal suite and the game lasted about 4 turns. The third game was pretty much a race. I had him at 4 I was at 10. I topdecked goblin ruinblaster to destroy his manland, pathed a beast token, and swung with kor skyfisher and ruinblaster for game. Final: vs. Green White tokens/eldrazi (Loss 2-0) The final was pretty bad for me. Game one I started off ok but then he played 2 conqueror's pledge and that was game. (He even had a third one in hand!) In the next game I kept a very bad hand which I should not have done but oh well... I don't think it would have mattered since he cast a kor firewalker on turns 2, 3, and 4. That game was over very quickly, especially since I had 0 white mana! So it was a great day of magic overall. I only saw one person out of about 25 or so playing Jund which was refreshing! People must have listened to alex in the last podcast and brought more fun social decks not just jund jund jund. But anyways it was the guy I played twice... one in swiss and again in the semifinal! I had a lot of fun, the promos are awesome, and would love to hear your stories from Worldwake game day! "I am Andrew Ryan, and I'm here to ask you a question. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? 'No!' says the man in Washington, 'It belongs to the poor.' 'No!' says the man in the Vatican, 'It belongs to God.' 'No!' says the man in Moscow, 'It belongs to everyone.' I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... Rapture" - Andrew Ryan "After the game, the king and the pawn go into the same box." - Italian Proverb |
