Magic Workstation

RE: Magic Workstation
My idea for organization was to have two days a week were game play were possible with the DC people. We can decide collaboratively as a group what to play the night that we all show up by vote. We can set rules so the same format doesn't get picked every time. As I've stated above I am more for talking then for text so I am still willing to get a ventrilo server so that we all can talk during game. I'm very proficient using a vent server so I can make it so that you just go into the room that is your table playing the game. Instead of having each night have a winner, how about keeping a running total of Match victories in the forum somewhere? That way we can play whatever format and just have running scores. I would say that we need at least 8 people for this really to be successful. If it gets to be something that's fairly popular, we could even use it as a means to raise awareness about DC in general. Don't know about you guys but I'm on these forums more then any others. So I would say that step one is to see about the interest in doing something like this. I believe that we already have 4 people interested. Let's also wait to hear something from Alex. He should be a part of this as DC is his show and his site. I wouldn't feel right using the name and using the forum without him agreeing.

RE: Magic Workstation
I personally think we should have a monthly date that stays consistent throughout the year (ie something like the first Saturday of the month). Then we could then have a monthly winner and post the dates on the forum calender. I also agree we should probably get Alex in on this, at least to get his permission to use his site for a league. If someone has twitter could they send him a tweet, otherwise I will send him an email (or someone else could) as he has not logged on since March 24.

RE: Magic Workstation
Monthly sounds good. And we can have to occasional match whenever someone feels up for it.

RE: Magic Workstation
I think we should ask Alex to put up a page with a table containing times or something that everyone will be on for every day of the week.

And also there should be a header saying something like: This week/month/year's format is _______. I mean of course anyone can play whatever they like, but if everyone plays the same format there could be a league table with points and stuff.
For instance, does anyone want a game right now?
I'm Burts on MW. Look for a DC Extended or something
Ok forget that I'm going to sleep.

RE: Magic Workstation
Using my brain (it works occasionally) I just realized a possible problem with a league: time differences. If it was just the USA then it would be simple, but England has a 5 hour difference from the east coast. This could make connecting at the same time a bit tricky.

RE: Magic Workstation
Yes but efforts can be made to have instances where we play together. Sundays most people don't work around here, not sure if that's true world wide, but I can give up my sunday morning if the English folks here are willing to give up there evening.'

Some of the links to set up are broken links now.

Sunday is the common day us Americans don't work. I wouldn't mind knowing who lives where on this forum. My guess is mostly UK.

RE: Magic Workstation
No actually from what I've gathered (we have talked a bit about this) most of us are United States natives. Alex and I think one or two users I've spoken to are from England.

I also got the program working and am getting all the pictures that I need downloaded. I was lucky enough last night to have a guy enter a game with me that was very rookie friendly. He taught me some of the more important hot keys, and showed me just how free form the engine is.

This is an honor system for sure. You must be honest for it to work. It would not be overly hard to cheat with this engine. So I don't think any kind of sanctioned event or prize would work on here merely because you are mostly trusted playing on merit. The engine records what you do but since it recoards EVERYTHING you do it would take a judge a very long time to review a game to ensure no cheating was used and that's only if a user might have caught it.

Overall though I can tell you that I was satisfied with how the engine works. I intend to continue to use it. It's nice to be able to test a deck with online play and not have to fork over the money for MTGO to do it. I'm eagerly awaiting a chance to play each of you.

For those of you that have issues going through your computers files and folders. and manually applying updates to things, this might be a difficult program to run. It takes you placing images in the correct folders for pictures to appear, and for you to regularly update your database when new cards come out. While I found automatic installs for the card database and the program, the images I had to load myself.

Also artic, I spent a good amount of time in the deck construction module and I couldn't seem to figure out how to put your sideboard in. Do you have to reload a deck in order to sideboard, or what is the deal with that?

RE: Magic Workstation
That may be the case, DisturbedOne0777 that you are playing truly on merit, but I don't think anyone here is out to cheat. I mean, unless we're playing for Force of Wills or Ancestral Recalls or something I don't think cheating will appear.

This isnt even a major problem really, as we're most likely not going to play for prizes anyway. This obviously has to be tested with games anyway.

And just for reference, I'm from the UK if the need for it arises.

RE: Magic Workstation
I wasn't claiming anyone in DC is a cheater. I've come to like everyone here, and want to play all of you. I was using the program last night just openly. Played a few good people. Ran into one dick, but it happens sometimes.

Sorry dude, I didn't make myself clear. I wasn't accusing you of anything lol. That's another thing about typing. No intonation whatsoever. Definitely something Windows or Apple should work on.

And if Windows 8 comes out, it was my idea!

At the moment I'm still a bit sleepy (definitely not a morning person!), so I'll probably post more later. But what I can say... wow! It's great that you're trying to set up a league. I have no problem with you using the DC name. Smile

I could look into getting some league software on the site if it would help to keep track of wins, losses etc.
