Thoughts on DC 99, New pre-con decks
Had to create a thread because comments were closed on the new DC podcast. I was very very impressed with the episode. Lots of good information on there that I didn't have to go find myself. So thank you Alex for a well prepared and presented show.
The biggest thing that hit me was these pre-constructed decks that you can buy from stores that include certain chase rares in them. This is probably one of the greatest moves by Wizards to help players construct competitive decks for a more cost effective price. If wizards continues a pattern of putting choice chase rares into easily acquired packs the price to play magic will go down. I for one fully support this decision. I don't collect magic expecting these cards to hold massive value. I expect them to be reasonably priced so that playing isn't excessively expensive. Magic is first and foremost a game. I'm glad to see Wizards do something to make me think they still remember that it is. Deck Construct MWS League. Season 2 is just around the corner.Sign ups have started! Check back soon for details! Yeah, and even though this is the first deck to have actual money rares in it, the red event deck from MBS managed to come second at my local store, showing that there is in fact value in getting them.

Weird, comments shouldn't have closed yet on that post (they auto-close after 90 days to combat spammers). I've reopened them.
Anyway, thanks for the comments! I think the quality of Magic precons is starting to go up, with Stoneforge Mystic in the event deck and Sol Ring in every Commander precon. Wizards seems to be siding with the player a bit more than the collector, which is fine because Magic is a game. Now if only they'd scrap the Reserved List...

RE: Thoughts on DC 99, New pre-con decks
I wish we could see them scrap that reserve list but if they legally declared an implied contract they would have a class action suite to face. Unfortunately the only way that Wizards of the Coast would ever be rid of that list is if they sold MTG to another company who didn't honor that contract. I'm not sure how contract law holds up across international borders but I'm pretty sure that Wizards of the Coast claims to be an American company meaning they would face an American Court system.
I realize that we say that it's ultimately their companies choice but it really isn't. They don't want to have to fork out tons of money to fight the onslaught of lawsuits that would occur. It would cost them more in court costs just to fight off the unwarranted claims. Even if there is no contract if they get sued by a ton of people they are going to lose money in court costs and lawyers fees to fight it. Money makes the world go round. Deck Construct MWS League. Yeah, i really weant to see the reserve list scrapped, but only because i really want to get into legacy but cant afford it because of the cost of it these days.

RE: Thoughts on DC 99, New pre-con decks
You know this new eternal format seems like it could do a great job of replacing legacy as the #1 eternal format in Magic. Honestly with having zero cards on the no re-print list and not nearly as large of a banned list it's promising. I"m sure with Alpha and beta and the early sets Magic wasn't anticipated as something that was going to be around 20+ years with a full fledge gaming community supporting it. if they would have thought about it they probably wouldn't have made a no-reprint list and the cards would be more balancing (Aka wouldn't have as large a ban list)
