Legacy Landstill Deck - Seeking Opinions
Hey there. This is my very first post here. Usually a lurk about a bit before posting but thought I'd just dive right in and introduce myself with a deck that I'm working on. It's a bit old schoolish but I like it.
Here it is: \\ Creatures \\ 1x Eternal Dragon \\ Spells \\ 4x Counterspell 3x Daze 4x Swords to Plowshares 2x Decree of Justice 4x Impulse 4x Force of Will 1x Brainstorm 1x Ponder 1x Mystical Tutor 1x Fact or Fiction \\ Enchantments \\ 4x Standstill \\ Artifacts \\ 1x Nevinyrral's Disk 2x Crucible of Worlds 3x Powder Keg \\ Land \\ 1x Academy Ruins 4x Tundra 4x Flooded Strand 1x Plains 3x Wasteland 3x Faerie Conclave 2x Tolaria West 4x Mishra's Factory 2x Island I'm open to all general opinions and suggestions but am specifically looking for thoughts on a good legacy draw engine. The draw engine is Type 1 compatible but I'm unsure if this is the best idea in Legacy. I previously had 4x Brainstorm and 4x Fact or Fiction but found that the FoF was to slow. I think I managed to cast it just once in 5 rounds of Swiss at my local shop tournament. Anyway, I'm curious what you guys think. Thanks for having a look. ![]() P.S. The sideboard I'm using, if you're interested, is below: 3x Tormod's Crypt 3x Circle of Protection: Red 3x Stifle 3x Pithing Needle 1x Nevinyrral's Disk 2x Pulse of the Fields |

First I think you should remove the one-ofs (eternal dragon may be able to stay). I would remove counterspell as well as it is a bit slow in legacy. Have you tried the countertop engine in your deck? That may solve some of you problems. Also how is Tolaria West working for you?
Can you give a bit more detail on your meta though? |

RE: Legacy Landstill Deck - Seeking Opinions
Well, I've been away from Magic for quite a few years so I'm not up on the meta in my area as much as I'd like. At the one tournament that I was at last week I saw an interesting mix. There was a 43-lands, a slow Green Big Creatures thing, burn, and zoo that I saw. There was also a mono-white deck with lots of kicker cards and a deck running Tendrils of Agony + Ad Nauseam. Out of 24 people I placed 11th and I think that could have been 10th or maybe even 9th with a little luck and a different side board. I originally didn't have Tormod's Crypt in the side, that has since been changed.
As far as the Tolaria West goes, I'm not sure. That's a recent change to try out but I haven't had a chance to play test it. Though, since I've posted the deck list above I've thought it best to keep it to one Tolaria West and replaced the 2nd Tolaria with a Hallowed Fountain. I'm thinking a single Tolaria is a nice Utility card that can help me pull that one manland I need for the kill or even a sided in Tormod's Crypt in a pinch but two is to much. Regarding the one-ofs that was largely done to make the draw engine Vintage. I'm still very much in flux with the draw. Right now I've taken out the one-ofs and have 4x Brainstorm, 2x Fact or Fiction, and 2x Ponder. Again, changes that haven't been play tested yet. As an older player returning into the game I'm still getting caught up on what is current. I've read about Countertop a bit and it looks interesting. How does getting rid of the Brainstorms, FoF and Ponder sound (should free up 8 slots) and put in 4 each of Counterbalance and Sensei's Divining Top? Regarding the Eternal Dragon I'd like to keep it. I've used it to often for various things from grabbing a much needed land via plainscycling or as a win condition late game. I've never been unhappy having it in my hand. What would you suggest over Counterspell? Thanks for your thoughts. Rignes |

I would replace the counterspells with brainstorm. With Daze, FoW, and countertop you should be relatively safe (unless they drop aether vial). I would also consider echoing truth for some more removal/stalling. My one comment on your sideboard would be to replace the pulses with relic of progenitus to avoid getting your graveyard hate stopped by pithing needle.
Edit: Also have you considered ghost quarter? |

Ghost Quarter in addition to or instead of Tolaria West? |

I am not really sure, I would just consider it as additional land destruction that is repeatable with crucible. |
