Question about proliferate

Let's say that I have a creature doing wither damage to one of my monsters. For this let's just call it a 3/3 monster.

Say that my opponent attacks me with a 1/1 Infect monster and I block with my 3/3. He takes his -1/-1 counter and is a 2/2. Now next turn I use an effect that grants him a +1/+1 counter, returning him to 3/3. After this effect would there still be 1 -1/-1 counter and 1 +1/+1 counter or would there be no counters. If there are both, when I proliferate does the target perminent get one of each type of counter or only of one type of counter that I would choose?

Mostly I'm asking because if it gets one of each, then once a creature has one of each on him he can't change his stats again to proliferate unless another effect adds a counter of one of the two types.

They explained this in shadowmoor with how -1/-1 counters interact with +1/+1 counters. The counters cancel each other and are removed so there is nothing to proliferate. Having the counters cancel each other out simplifies the whole process so you don't have to track separate numbers of counters (at least those affecting power and toughness) which now with proliferate would become a nightmare.

Well let's say that something get's a counter that grants it flying or the lich's phylactery counter is placed on an artifact creature along with +1/+1 counters. Does Profrilate give them one of each counter type on the perminent or does it just give them one of a chosen type on the perminent?

Of course I forgot that you only can choose one type of counter on a permanent to add an additional one of. So yes you could choose the phylactery counter, a quest counter, or a divinity counter on a myojin.

Alrighty, thanks for the clarification. I tried out Salvation's wiki on the rules which was still unclear, and oracle is blocked at work (where the question came up)
