making a cube

making a cube
Lately I have thought about making a cube for drafting. The main problem is that I don't want to build the stereotypical cube that runs all the power cards of magic. Even the uncommon/common cubes seem to get bogged down with ridiculously broken cards that while making the drafts interesting can also be stupidly broken. So my goal is to make a cube that is the most interesting limited format possible while not being too broken. I don't want every card in the pack to be first pickable, having niche and sideboard cards is fine. I also want all three archetypes: aggro, control, and combo represented. Now I don't want to decide on all the cards to use as my drafting preferences will color the cube so I figure the more input I get from people will only improve the card. I want suggestions for fun limited card for cube.

Before suggesting cards I want to set down a few rules:

1. No stupidly broken cards.
Skullclamp, force of will, and sol ring are fun (and also uncommons) but they can make the game unfun due to their raw power. I don't want the cube to come down to how many inherently broken cards you can pick up.

2. only use necessary rares
I don't have a problem with rares in the cube though I don't want them to dominate the cube. They can add power to the cube but if they are not a interesting or important card or can be easily replaced with non-rare cards.

3. This cube has little room for midrange
I don't want the cube to turn into ramping into the best 4-6 drops. I want to include some more expensive mana cost cards but ramping is not the goal. This also means that things like the ravnica signets are not going to be in the cube, green will be the only color with acceleration.

I plan on building a 360 card cube. My goal is to have 50 cards of each color, 45 artifacts, 30 lands, and 40 multicolor cards though these numbers may change.

For the lands I plan on putting the 10 ravnica bounce lands, the 5 shards tri-lands, terramorphic expanse, evolving wilds, and mishra's factory. I may put in the onslaught or urzas cycling lands but am unsure if they are particularly useful (though cycling is always fun).

For the colors I want each color to exemplify its own strengths. I am not sure about what I want artifacts to do. Gold cards also are problematic as I don't want to force people to play allied colors and I also don't want to make the entire draft about building a deck based around a shard.

So after all that what are some suggestions of cards that make a fun and interesting draft experience?

RE: making a cube
I would suggest cards that make a color that color. lightning bolt seems like a card that red should always have. It's defined red for me.

Since Force of Will is out, perhaps throwing in one of the two mana counterspell's from blue would be a good idea?
