Your favorite old deck.

Your favorite old deck.
We all have one - a deck we built back in the begginings of our days of playing Magic. The deck may have been either really really awesome, or just really fun to play.

Mine goes way, WAY back to the beginning. Nothing newer than The Dark. When I first built the deck, I had whatever cards I could get my hands on. By the time I lost it (when I moved 3 times in the same year...) there was only one white border card in the deck.

Land (19)
1x Library of Alexandria - Arabian Nights
2x Plateau - Beta
2x Savannah - Beta
2x Taiga - Beta
4x Tropical Island - Beta
4x Tundra - Beta
4x Volcanic Island - Beta

Instant (13)
1x Ancestral Recall - Beta
4x Counterspell - Beta
3x Disenchant - Beta
1x Fork - Beta
4x Swords to Plowshares - Beta

Sorcery (4)
1x Regrowth - Beta
1x Time Walk - Beta
1x Timetwister - Beta
1x Wheel of Fortune - Beta

Creature (10)
4x Birds of Paradise - Beta
3x Flying Men - Arabian Nights
3x Granite Gargoyle - Beta

Artifact (14)
1x Black Lotus - Unlimited
1x Ivory Tower - Antiquities
4x Millstone - Antiquities
1x Mox Emerald - Beta
1x Mox Pearl - Beta
1x Mox Ruby - Beta
1x Mox Sapphire - Beta
4x Tormod's Crypt - The Dark

Standard Millstone deck from the days of old. I didn't even start playing Magic until revised. I traded my ass off to build this deck, and once I did, I kept trading up until I had everything in Beta or its original form from whatever set. Before starting to build this deck, I had 3 full playsets of Revised dual lands plus maybe another half a playset. By the time I was done building it, I had one playset of Beta dual lands and the power 9 in Beta except for the Mox Jet and the Black Lotus. I never bothered to upgrade those two because the Jet wasn't in the deck and the Lotus was too much of a trade loss on the upgrade. God I miss my old cards...

No, I'm not posting this to brag. Again, this deck disappeared on me when I moved 3 times in the same year. I suspect that the girl I was dating at the time 'misplaced' it.

O.0 wow... Power 9...
Dude I think this belongs to deck discussion actually...
My first proper deck was a theme deck lol.. I thin it was timespiral's B/R suspend featuring pardic
dragon( woot! Dragons!) and deep sea kraken... Yay suspend... Actually I think that this deck actually sparked my love for suspend, leading to my dragonstorm deck... Shld share the decklist ... I'll get right on to that

I look forward to the list.

Alex, if this goes better in Deck Discussion, please go ahead and move it.

Yeah, dreamclaw, power 9. I traded to get them all for just this deck, ended up losing the deck not long after my last upgrade from Unlimited to Beta (I believe it was the Mox Ruby) I miss this deck dearly and I am now wishing I never got out of the game. Luckily, there are people on ebay dumping old sets. I found one guy selling the Kamigawa block on ebay as three separate sales (one for each set, of course) and each one was 4 of every common and uncommon and 1-4 of every rare. Close enough to a playset that I can finish it up by raiding the $0.50-$1 rare boxes at my various local shops.

RE: Your favorite old deck.
Haha awesome tactic... I'm considering collecting some good cards for vintage too... But here in Singapore, the prices are pretty gnarly...
Lol condolences given for your lost deck dude... I would be sad if a deck of mine went missing too...

Yeah, in the case of that particular deck, I'd really love it if I still had it.

Though in this case the love would be the product of the money it could bring me seeing as I have a son that will be born in the end of February. That deck would pay for a hell of a lot of diapers, with money left over for new cards to stay current in Standard...

RE: Your favorite old deck.
Thread moved to DD, and congrats Darth. Must be an exciting time. Smile

There was one deck I liked way back when I first started in '95, but I don't remember the decklist. All I remember is it had Pox and a few Circles of Protection. I also remember it being really bad, actually, but I had fun nonetheless.

More recently, I liked playing my Aeon Loam (as I now call it) deck from show 1. My opponents would love the extra card draw and lands, then I'd start Time Walking and Vinelasher Kudzu (the original Landfall creature hehe) would get bigger and bigger.

RE: Your favorite old deck.
Ha! That reminds me of the old school white/black Pestilence decks of old. With the old school stuff, most of the deck was really flexible, but the required stuff was as follows:

4x Pestilence
4x Circle of Protection: Black
4x White Knight
4x Black Ward (for any creatures you wanted to play that were not inherently pro-black)

Other than this stuff, it almost didn't matter what else you did. The deck was tier-2 at best, but it was fun to play.

RE: Your favorite old deck.
I had a five color deck that was great fun around the set Fires of Yavimaya was printed. Also had a mono-white fortress deck that was nigh invincible once it was set up. many games conceded to that one.
