Magic Abroad
Hello everyone, I have just come back from the sunny U.S of A, and I'm going to tell you about a nice little thing while I was over there.

I was staying in a hotel called 'The Point', which is near Orlando, and close to all of the theme parks and attractions. And on the first weekend of the trip, there was a flea market on. I love flea markets, so I checked it out. And it turned out there was an MTG dealer there.

In the end, I bought an ROE booster, and four old-ish cards, totalling $5.
I had no money on me at all, if I had there was a Mox Diamond for $20!

Anyway, the four old cards I bought were...

Kudzu Revised
Amulet of Kroog
Wall of Spears
Willow Elf 1999 Starter

So it was just nice to see an obscure games shop at this flea market, and I wonder if anyone else has had an experience like this?

Some people say I'm a god. Some say I'm just an exceptional person. Some even go so far as to say I am the incarnation of awesome.

They're all correct.

RE: Magic Abroad
I know a number of smaller games retailers sell at flea markets while maintaining an online store where they make most of their money. When I played D&D miniatures the guy I bought minis from did that and was fairly successful.

Around 6-7 years ago a guy did have a flea market stall near where I lived and had a ton of older cards. I think Weatherlight was the newest set he had at the time he opened but he started getting singles for newer sets as they came out. He was a nice guy who gave kids good deals on cards. He even gave me the oversized plow under promo he got from 8th edition and all the Mirrodin promo material he had (all of which I still have). Sadly he had to close down his shop after having a major heart attack. Pretty soon after the market was turned into a furniture store so there was no chance to replace him.

Also you have learned your lesson about why carrying money is a good idea, finding $20 mox diamonds is pretty rare (admittedly i would ask him to bend test it before I bought it but that is just me being paranoid).

Satisne sanus es?

RE: Magic Abroad
Steals N Deals it would seem. $20 for a card that's worth $50-$60 depending on the dealer? That's pretty sweet, and I would have found a damn ATM if that was the case for me.

Unfortunately if there are any flea markets around here I'm not sure where they happen. And knowing the St.Louis area as I do magic wise, I'm doubting that any of the guys that would go to them would be new people to me. Most of the cards around here float around between the several shops and a few private traders that are very large collectors. We got a guy around here named William that I swear has every card ever made in a playset, kept in a box, at his house. I don't know about the Black lotus or some other STUPIDLY HIGH priced cards, but he has just about everything that resonable and playable. And the cool part is that he has extras and if your building a specific deck he will give you a discount on the cards the more you buy.

I wish I could find steals like at that flea market though cause I doubt I could ever talked him down to 50% or less. Never.

There is also Craigslist and Ebay. Collection buying is risky at times, especially if they don't list the collection, but if you can haggle price a little (craigs list) you can get some pretty reasonable cards.

Guys like these make me wonder how much money they put into their stuff.
