M11
So the new core set is due out next month (As Alex reminded us in the latest DC). I personally wasn't even aware up till this episode but it got me thinking. When he was speaking about the card's that are being reprinted and the ones being removed I had some thoughts.

TwinCast- Twin cast is getting removed. Most people won't care but I'm definitely disappointed. As most people find this card useless because it's more or less unpredictable as to how useful it's going to be, I use it in most of my mono-blue builds. Standard at the moment doesn't see much use for it because there isn't really a mono-Blue or mostly blue deck out there that would see it played. It's not really too much of a control card so much as it is Chaos. I have used to to duplicate opponents spells so many times that they thought were going to be game breaking. And man is it funny when jund Bit blasts, I follow up with twin cast, and flip something like counter spell or one of the cheaper Merfolk, Or the ever funny, the exact same Merfolk you bit blasted to kill it.

Baneslayer Angel - This card is expensive for a reason. It's good, and there is no question about it. I'm glad to hear that there is going to be a re-print to get it's price down. I'm still more in love with the idea of outing legendary rares altogether, but so long as they have them I hope they keep reprinting cards like this, that are so pivotal to decks that have their colors.

Lightning Bolt - leave my 3 damage for R alone. Shock was a nice idea, but it's hard to beat the classic. I have never felt this card to be off power either. It's also funny that you know it's important since when most friend I have talk about creature placement in decks, Bolt Range comes up as a factor.

Vampire Nocturnus - I didn't hear anything about this card and I'm hoping that they do re-print it. It's pretty much what makes the vamp decks that are compettive that way. I would hate to see him drop and not see anything to give vampires that power card back.

Some things I'd like to see

There are some cards that I've been hoping to see get reprinted for a while. I'd like to see Goblin Grenade come back. Just too fun to have for the goblins deck. It would also be nice to find a lifegain deck that can handle. Just doesn't seem to be a lifegain build worth it's weight right now.

I still think they should turn Urza into a planeswalker card. Call it my retro RPG element in me, but the man was a HUGE part of magic for years of it's early life, and some of us story driven folks would like to see him make a return to the game. I also wouldn't mind seeing other faces from the Urza saga, like the legendary dragons.

Just my $0.02

100% agree. I think Urza would be an absolutely awesome choice for a planeswalker card.

Definitely going to miss Twincast, although I do understand why it's not coming back; I only ever played it in casual decks for fun. "Okay, so I cast Empty the Warrens with a storm count of 4....... annnnnd Twincast." Good times.

I'm not sure how to feel about Shivan Dragon not returning to M11. On the one hand, he's really been outclassed by more powerful dragons that have come up recently, but on the other hand, he was the original, the classic, the mainstay going back to pretty much the very beginning. I'm hopeful that it means there'll be something cool to fill the gap, but sad to see an old friend get left by the wayside.

We make the dragons as we make the gods, because we need them, because, somewhere deep in our hearts, we recognize that a world without dragons is a world without magic or mystery, and that is not a world I would want to live in.

I wanted this to not get reprinted so I could laugh at the fools who view cards as investments. I would not have minded if it was reprinted in a few years but it just does not feel like a core magic card for me. Walletslayer needs to be nerfed as it is currently too good for its cost which makes it less fun and more stupid.

I agree that they should keep bolt just because Wizards has much more design room with burn spells. Burst lightning is far superior to shock and cards like forked bolt would create greater connondrums when deck building (divided damage vs. instant speed). As long as wizards keeps making fun R costed burn spells, lighting bolt can stay to give them a basis for what R should do without flexibility.

I think many people, including myself, don't think nocturnus is seeing a reprint with captivating vampire. Whats captivating vampire you ask (assuming you have not been checking spoilers)?

Captivating Vampire 1BB (Rare)
Creature – Vampire
Other Vampires you control get +1/+1.
Tap five untapped vampires you control : You gain control of target creature.
It becomes vampire in addition to other types.
2/2

My other thoughts on cards spoiled so far:

Fling-Hell yeah! Aggro-nutjob overload!

Sylvan wayfinder- Wizards if you print another civic wayfinder/wood elves functional reprint I will murder you. Carrying a playset of each is getting on my nerves but I have to have my mana fixing. Stick with one! I would prefer civic wayfinder but I would compromise with borderland ranger.

For what I want personally in the set:

Swords to plowshares- with path rotating this fall, return whites basic removal. Sure standard would be nuts with both playable in a deck but standard is already screwed up so who cares?

tarmogoyf- reprint this as a rare with baneslayer in the set its price will drop significantly and m11 will be the best selling mtg set ever.

Dark ritual- Wizards prints this in every black based casual product I doubt it would make black too broken. Turn 1 hypnotic spectres are scary but there are a number of answers to them.

Conceptual card: "Planeswalker slayer"- equipment that gives a +3/+0 (or something like that) and tap: destroy target planeswalker.

A similar concept would be a creature that could tap and exile itself to destroy a planeswalker.

Squire- Because it is the most awesome white creature ever, even more broken than baneslayer and looks even cooler in foil.

I would have to agree that the nerfing would be good. Moving both into rare would make both cards easier to get and drag the price down but if they are reprinting walletslayer as a Mythic then those jerks are just trying to get more money out of an already over priced card.

You would be right in saying that I haven't kept up with the spoilers because I haven't. I'm going to have to say I'm not happy about the choice to drop him (guess it's not set in stone, but Im' inclined to think that card is his replacement). I just found him to be such a great card. The smaller cost is nice, but taking away the flying, not so much.

I have to say I agree. Stop reprinting the same card with different names so we need more of them to continue. Print the same card over so that I can use my older editions you jerks.

This would be a start towards that lifegain win deck I was talking about. Felidar will still be in standard, but all the fun Alara lifegain is about to disappear so have to see.

Quote:Dark ritual- Wizards prints this in every black based casual product I doubt it would make black too broken. Turn 1 hypnotic spectres are scary but there are a number of answers to them.

I have wondered why this card hasn't showed up lately. I even went so far as to ask if it was baned in legacy to see if maybe the eternal formats found it was too broken. I don't understand why this card hasn't seen a reprint in so long.

Quote:Conceptual card: "Planeswalker slayer"- equipment that gives a +3/+0 (or something like that) and tap: destroy target planeswalker.

Out of these two I would definitely prefer the creature card. That or the equipment should be like the torch and sacrifice the equipment so it's not a repeated planeswalker killer.

Agreed. Foil would look good.

It is slightly different from the normal cycle as it costs 1G as opposed to the rest of the "cycle" that cost 2G. You get the civic wayfinder effect on a 1/1. Civic wayfinder/borderland ranger can actually be useful as 2/2s (or better if running oran-rief). It just does not seem as useful in constructed and forces me to get a new playset. That said I will probably draft the hell out of them in limited.

How does that push towards lifegain? Is you plan to have them swords your walls?

As I mentioned Wizards keeps putting ritual in every casual product that can run it. There is also now enough solid removal to make the ritual a good black spell. You can accelerate into some great cards quickly but run the risk of losing them to removal which makes the ritual cards disadvantage. Combo is generally nerfed in standard anyway and storm is unlikely to see reprint (I seem to remember some of the designers disliking storm as a mechanic) which make the ritual less useful.

I am assuming if such a piece of equipment was printed it would be along the lines of something like worldslayer, an expensive piece of equipment that has an absurd effect. Maybe if it gave tap:exile the equipped creature and target planeswalker.

I got a foil timesifted one, it is awesome. I just need to find a few more to finish off the foil playset.

RE: M11
Just to answer the life gain question, and not to quote 10000 things like we keep doing. In the version of the deck I was playing it used Ageless entities which grew with lifegain. It wouldn't be so much a "needed" card as much as it would be useful as removal as well as a little lifegain as necessary. I mean if I have the feldar out and I'm 5 shy of getting it and the baneslayer is sitting next to him, I'd cast it on the baneslayer to end the game. But that's a rare situation. It's more of a good card for the build I'm using because it's defensive that can also be used for a quick life jump with my creatures that mostly grow with lifegain.

RE: M11
With the early release of tomorrows shared spoilers, M11 is looking even more awesome. Control players celebrate mana leaks return. Ravenous baloth gets a nod with a functionalish reprint in Forward Baloth with the added bonus of hosing jund. Personally I am most excited about thief of scrolls, improved orphidians are great, improved orphidians that happen to be rogues just make me want to run around screaming in happiness. Having my favorite tribe get support after being ignored in alara and zendikar gives me hope (not much but just enough to start melting the edges of my cynical heart). Bloodthirsty goblin seems fun though it probably is this sets jackal familiar, a underpriced red creature that seems mildly playable but just does not work.

Overall this sets is shaping up into something that looks exciting to draft, which adds a lot too my enjoyment of a set.

What does everyone think of

Time Reversal
3UU
Mythic Rare
Sorcery
Each player shuffles his or her hand and graveyard into his or her library, then draws seven cards. Exile Time Reversal.

I like it, but think it will be a card like time warp. Ok in most blue deck (apart from mill ones), but fantastic in the right deck.

Might even be a sb hate for dredge...

I will probably spend the rest of the day hunched in a corner gibbering to myself just do to the awesomeness of Time Reversal.

Sadly I think it will be incredibly expensive. Star City currently has the pre-order price at $20 and I can see it going up to $30-40.

Of course it's mythic. I hate that they introduced mythic rarity more and more as time goes on. They didn't' need a "higher" level or rarity. Just makes it harder for those that want to compete to get what they need "reasonably" priced.

The green titan seems fairly amusing especially being able to get non-basics. A pity that standard does not have all the fun utility lands to tutor up. I will admit I am more excited about this guy:

I am also worried about the fact that there appear to be 2 elf lords in the set with imperious perfect and elvish archdruid, is engineered plague too much to ask for now?

BRING BACK THE PLAGUE! I use to use that card to wreck slivers. They drove me nuts. That zombie might finnaly make my dream of the competitive undead deck a possibility. I mean there was that W/B or W/B/U zombie deck that I've seen played and played myself, but it never really stood up to any of my meta.

RE: M11
I am now exceedingly confused. Wizards seems to have decided to actually listen to what players want. While Grave Titan, Primeval Titan, and Sun titan all have some combo potential, today we get this:

as well as
[Image: vbk1m54xmn_EN.jpg]

We actually get desperate ritual without the splice? Is seething song going to get a reprint either now or return in Mirrodin to allow some ritual based combo deck to appear in standard or extended? And even the demon screams to be abused in some fashion, I doubt the deck will be good but it is still amusing. First reprinting mana leak and now comboish cards, Wizards seems to be making a good core set and not just messing the game up as usual for recent times.
