RE: storm
My understanding is anything that you play (creatures, enchantments, artifacts, instants, planeswalkers etc....) even the 0 casting cost items like ornithopters.

RE: storm
To clarify what Ferridge said, every non-land card is a spell. Storm puts a copy of the spell on the stack for each spell played. You should also remember to include spells opponents cast count towards the spell count as well.

RE: storm
As an addendum to this, once the storm spell is declared, Storm stops counting spells played and if someone plays a counter or something else in response, it doesnt count towards the Storm count.

RE: storm
One thing I didn't know about when I first played a storm deck was that when an opponent tries to counter a storm spell, he or she needs to counter EACH copy of the spell, as they all come into the stack simultaneously. You can't just counterspell the "actual" card and say that the storm is countered.
Also, Twincast on a storm spell is hilarious and illegal under the Geneva Convention. We make the dragons as we make the gods, because we need them, because, somewhere deep in our hearts, we recognize that a world without dragons is a world without magic or mystery, and that is not a world I would want to live in. |

RE: storm
But you can stifle the storm trigger which stops all the copies from being made which essentially ruins the storm spell.

RE: storm
For ultimate storm stop, pick yourself up some Mindbreak Trap. They cast a spell and you counter it and all of it's copies from happening. I've only seen this card used against storm and cascade.

RE: storm
Actually twincasting a storm spell is pretty useless as storm does not trigger as the spell is not cast, you out the copy directly on the stack. If you twincast a brainfreeze you would only mill 3 more cards. A better way to do silly things with storm is to use remand. You can put the storm triggers on the stack and then bounce the storm spell back to you hand to play again now with an even higher storm count.

RE: storm
Sorry, I was talking about how storm works if it is countered. So if the storm is countered the copy of the other copies of the the storm still go onto the stack and go through?

RE: storm
If you counter a spell with storm all the storm copies still go on the stack and will resolve. If you stifle or trickbind storm only the original copy resolves. If you twincast a storm spell only one additional copy is added as storm is triggered by casting the spell, twincast only puts the copy on the stack.
