RE: [Standard] Goblins
Hi Alex,
Just heard you last podcast -- enjoyed it as always. Especially the Goblin deck, because I agree, there is room for a Goblin deck in standard right now. Looking over the Zendikar Game Day lists, I wasn't the only one surprised to see this in a top eight spot (second, no less!) -- Main Deck 22 Mountain 4 Goblin Bushwhacker 4 Goblin Chieftain 4 Goblin Guide 3 Goblin Shortcutter 4 Jackal Familiar 4 Raging Goblin 4 Burst Lightning 2 Dragon Fodder 2 Earthquake 4 Lightning Bolt 3 Quest for Pure Flame Sideboard 2 Dragon Fodder 2 Goblin Assault 2 Goblin Ruinblaster 3 Magma Spray 2 Manabarbs 2 Relic of Progenitus 2 Shatter And I went, yeah! I could play with that. Being new to the game, aggro and sligh are appealing because the basics are 'play dude, turn sideways' and the tactics aren't to big beyond that (as opposed to those five colour control decks... I tried my friend's deck and was like a deer in the headlights). While I haven't got the pieces yet, some other forum denizens also saw this list and tried it out. Seems like it's got potential. Adding Quest for Pure Flame seems like a no-brainer -- rewarding you for getting damage in, and no-one will see it coming. |

RE: [Standard] Goblins
Hey, thanks for posting the list, I hadn't seen it yet. Y'know, Raging Goblin isn't so bad and actually I almost put it into my list. It increases the number of hasty 1-drops on turn 1, becomes 2/2 with a Chieftain, and you can sac it to Siege-Gang.
Earthquake is another nice card if you don't want to run an all-fire spell suite and will act as a reset button if things get out of hand. Also, I agree no-one will see Quest for Pure Flame coming. A one-turn, one-sided Furnace of Rath is quite nice. ![]() (2009-11-14 13:28 PM)fifthchild Wrote: Hi Alex, |

RE: [Standard] Goblins
Alex, I like your take on the Gobbies. Splashing the black in there for the Deathraiders and the Blightning was a really good idea, and leave you open to add in Terminate or Doomblade for clearing the board a bit.
One thing: Using the Warren instigator as one of the primary creatures in a Goblin deck makes it a deck that relies on having cards in hand at all times. Howling Mine would be a good way to feed this deck's appetite. Fitting 2-3 in the deck would be sufficient - maybe take out 1x Goblin Chieftan, 1x Goblin Guide and 1x Punishing Fire to make the room? |
