This is the deck I ran at the Nationals Qualifier at Richmond on April 2nd.
9 Island
6 Swamp
2 Inkmoth Nexus
4 Drowned Catacomb
2 Tectonic Edge
1 Scalding Tarn
1 Marsh Flats
4 Grand Architect
3 Enclave Cryptologist
3 Trinket Mage
2 Steel Hellkite
1 Wurmcoil Engine
4 Inquisition of Kozilek
4 Mana Leak
3 Doom Blade
2 Bonehoard
2 Everflowing Chalice
2 Tumble Magnet
1 Sylvok Lifestaff
1 Liliana Vess
2 Into The Roil
1 Chimeric Mass
Sideboard:
1 Mimic Vat
2 Steel Sabotage
1 Into The Roil
2 Spell Pierce
2 Thada Adel, Acquisitor
2 Duress
1 Phyrexian Revoker
1 Memoricide
1 Royal Assassin
2 Flashfreeze
This deck was kinda built on a budget, as I don't want to spend too much on Standard (if I'm going to spend a bit of money, I'd rather spend it on Legacy). That's why there are no Darkslick Shores or Creeping Tar Pit. My mate Tim lent me the Nexuses (Nexi?).
The first cards I'd replace are the Cryptologists with Preordain. Setting up a long-term draw engine is not as good in this deck as just drawing there and then. A couple of times I saw Cryptologist and Mana Leak in my opening hand and wished the former were Preordain.
I'd also replace the Lifestaff and Chimeric Mass with Brittle Effigy and Basilisk Collar (both of which completely slipped my mind while building this deck), which are much better Trinket Mage targets.
Afterwards, Tim suggested losing the two Bonehoards and just playing 4 Magnets, and I agree. Bonehoard was useful at times, but it's more of a sideboard card against graveyard-happy decks like the GW deck I played against.
I debated over whether or not to play Doom Blade or Go for the Throat, as UK metas are so unpredictable. In the end I went with DB, but GftT would've been just as useful.
Also, I'd definitely try to fit in Black Sun's Zenith somehow. I lost count of the amount of times I wished I had a sweeper of some sort!
I'll talk about the matchups in show 93, but suffice to say it always felt like this deck was just short of "getting there".
