Alright guys so right now i have a playset of bloodbraid, ranger of eos, and birds of paradise i also have 3 nobles and 2 dauntless escort and i've been considering putting a zoo deck together. I don't have very many zendikar or world wake cards, and i don't have any Eldrazi. I can probably get a hold of any commons or uncommons for the deck but i was hoping you guys might have some ideas. I've looked online and found the boss naya deck that plays with knight of reliquiry, fetch lands, and wild nacatle but i'm not sure that i can afford the fetch lands. Any input would be awesome, thanks guys
I'd concur with browncoat. That's a very aggroish deck and would prove quite speedy in the new meta. Given the absence of
Tarmogoyf in Standard
Goblin Guide makes for some extra one drop options. However, if it were me and you could afford it, I'd top this deck off with a playset of
Vengevine, or perhaps remove a one drop for this creature. He's insane, especially if you started packing 4
Birds of Paradise to speed up his appearance. Given the fact that you have so many one drops, it will be almost effortless to bring this guy back to bash face if he's put into the graveyard, and he's so solid that you'll find yourself going wow! I really like him as a creature, but I think it'll take some time before someone makes the right Naya deck that he really shines in. Jund seems too overpowered to pack him, and you'd have to take out something that wouldn't be worth the tradeoff, and in all honesty, Jund is too slow with not enough cheap creatures to utilize him to the max. I'd definitely include him in a Naya deck, although I am cautious because I'm still not sure how Naya is going to hold up in the new meta now that RoE is out.
I like vengevine but if deckbuilder is not going to get fetchlands, he won't drop the $120 for the playset of vengevine. Also I think the
noble hierarchs and
birds of paradise are a hold over from the midrange naya deck which you don't want to copy in an aggro deck. It does not really fit in the deck though as you already have 8 4-drops with the far better ranger and bloodbraid. Vengevine may have a place in eldrazi green but otherwise is just ROE's lotus cobra, a good card without a deck that is currently overpriced.
Thanks for the advice, loam lion will definitly make a good addition to the deck. I'm also thinking i should throw in my 2 ajani vengeants and sarkhon vol. Vengvine is a beast but again it's much too expensive. Guides are deffinitly solid i'll try to get a set of those. Thanks for the advice guys if you think of anything else i'm all ears
Journey to Nowhere and
Oblivion Ring are both solid choices for either maindeck or sideboard. You'll need them if you plan on going to FNM and such with this deck. The Polymorph Emrakul deck is quite popular and randomly wins games. I went 1-1 against this deck last Friday, and I'm a testament that once Emrakul hits the table unless you have a Journey or an O-Ring you're in serious trouble.
If Emrakul hits the table the O-ring and Journey can not target him. They are both white spells and he has protection from all colored spells. Basically if he hits the table the game is over.
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn

Because oblivion ring and journey to nowhere target once they are on the battlefield so they are no longer spells. This allows you to deal with emrakul as you target him with a permanent not a spell.
Okay, so then when an enchantment reads "When *blank* enters the battlefield, X happens." This will occur colorless regardless of the cost of that enchantment? So the effect loses it's color?
See then how does that work with creatures.Lets say I've casted a creature and it has an effect that reads "When *Blank* enters the battlefield, destroy target permanent" and let's say the target I want has protection from the color of that creature, does it's effect still have the ability to target the permanent. If this doesn't work please explain to me why it doesn't. To me that makes zero since that an effect coming from a spell would be any different color then the spell itself.
It is not about the color of the card but the fact that oblivion ring or journey to nowhere is no longer a spell. It has entered play so is now a permanent, not a spell on the stack. Emrakul does not have protection from colored permanents so can be targeted.
The protection example you stated is true as protection from a color stops colored targeted abilities.
Oh, The literal text of Emrakul is his stopping point. I didn't realize he didn't have protection from colors. It was just colored spells. Again that wording on things eludes me from time to time. Trying to train myself to catch little alterations to usual reading on cards. I read it as Protection from all colors more or less.
So I played this variant of zoo at FNM tonight and went 3,2:
22 Creatures
2 noble
2 birds of paradise
4 wild nacatl
1 loam lion
3 quasali pridemage
2 woolly thoctar
4 bloodbraid
4 ranger of eos
other Spells
2 burst lightning
4 lightning bolt
3 stagger shock
2 behemoths sledge
2 ajani vengeant
3 oblivion ring
Lands
3 jungle shrine
4 teramorphic expanse
5 mountains
2 plains
8 forests
Sideboard
4 kor firewalker
4 celestrial purge
1 oblivion ring
1 quasali pridemage
2 dauntless escort
1 flame slash
1 burst lightning
1 manabarbs
First round lost 2-1 to jund (lost game one, boarded in firewalker, purge, escort, and oblivion ring, won game two, unlucky loss game three)
Round two won 2-1 against polymorph- eldrazi (lost game one, boarded in escort, oblivion ring, pridemage)
Round three won 2-0 against goblins (boarded in firewalker, purge)
Round four won 2-1 against bligtning deck wins (boarded in firewalker, purge)
Round five lost 0-2 against goblins (manaflood game 1, board in firewalker, purge, manastarved game two, bolted birds and couldnt get a fourth manasource
All in all i thought the deck played well, i wasn't able to get the rest of my loam lions before the game but i plan on adding them in and possible dropping birds and noble and maybe adding explore. I think i may remove the behemoths sledge as it was the first card i seemed to board out most games. The biggest problem seemed to be getting enough white mana when i board my firewalkers so i'm thinking i should remove a forest and add a third plains.
If you add
explore, I would recommend adding 3 at most. Cascading into it with bloodbraid is pretty annoying and QI would 3 worked well in jund (so I think a similar number would work in naya). Looking at your list you may also want a few more land, 22 is pretty low for a deck that wants to hit 4 mana as quickly as possible. And good job at the tournament, sorry for the bad luck.
Thanks, and yeah i hadn't thought about explore with bloodbraid. I really was looking for a way to get wild nacatle swinging for 3 on turn two and being able to eliminate birds and noble to make room for the loam lions. As is i usually either have a birds, nacatl, or noble in the opening hand so between noble and quasali pridemage i can swing three on turn two and then 5 on turn three which is a great opening and can be just enough considering the massive amount of burn. If i left noble and birds in what do you think i should take out to make room for loam lions
Wooly Thoctar. While it's a nice big beater when it finally hits the field, if you can't find a mountain you'll be kicking yourself because it's in your hand and you can't cast it. Loam Lion is less color dependent and could be much more effective for you. Sure you lose some power and toughness, but have two 2/3 bodies that can eat little creatures and still swing is better than one big 5/4 I think. But that's just my opinion.
