DeckConstruct is a podcast, and associated website, about Magic: The Gathering (MTG). It was launched in September 2007. Magic: The Gathering is a trading card game launched in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast. It went on to become a huge success and spawned a whole new genre of gaming; a new sub–industry, in fact.
The show, hosted by Alex, discusses current topics in MTG such as current events and new releases, and also things that are frequently overlooked elsewhere. Previously, the show has featured primers on various formats and deck archetypes, brand new decks and a guide to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, among other things.
The podcast was co–hosted by Dan up to August 2008, after which he returned to Malaysia, his home country, to work in Malaysian radio. He currently works at Hoohaa.my, a startup he helped to set up.
The overall ethos of DeckConstruct is a show that is relaxed, but focused and treats both the game and the listener with respect. Care is taken to make each show sound as good as possible. In addition, music plays an important part in the show, and each series is characterised by a certain musical theme.
DeckConstruct also releases MTG–related videos under the DeckConstruct Films name. So far, these have included events such as Pro–Tour Qualifiers and new set pre–releases. The videos can be found on YouTube.
Standards–compliant XHTML and CSS have been used wherever possible, with the intention that whatever browser you use, this site will look the same as much as is possible. The site has been tested in Firefox 3, Opera 10, Internet Explorer 8, Google Chrome and Safari 4 for Windows. It even works well in Lynx, a text–only browser. The site may not work so well in older browsers, but hopefully it will at least degrade gracefully.
The site also uses a special theme for iPhone, iPod touch and Android users, created by Brave New Code and released as a WordPress plugin.
